What is a PDO Thread Lift ?

PDO stands for polydioxanone, an absorbable and flexible material more commonly known as a suture. A PDO thread lift uses these absorbable sutures to provide an amazing lift and tightening to the skin and underlying structures. It is a minor, in-office procedure, often referred to as a non-surgical facelift. Different types of threads are used in certain areas to lift and tighten the skin. Additionally, PDO threads stimulate collagen production encouraging your body to rebuild any collagen lost.

PDO threads are great for areas of the face that tend to fall or sag over time such as the cheeks, jowls, neck as well as for excess upper eyelid skin or droopy eyebrows. They can also be used on the body, in areas such as the stomach to help tighten skin after pregnancy or weight loss, or to lift the knees. Additionally, PDO threads can be used to help with wrinkles and scars such as from acne.

What To Expect

A PDO thread lift treatment is a unique and custom procedure based on your consultation with the Aesthetic Nurse. You will discuss your desired results and treatment plan before moving forward to ensure complete satisfaction. Because PDO threads are inserted under the skin, a small amount of lidocaine numbing will be injected into the treatment area. This ensures that only minor discomfort and pressure are felt.

There are several things you can do at home to reduce any bruising and make your treatment more comfortable. Vitamins that have a blood-thinning effect should be avoided a few days prior to treatment such as Vitamin E and Fish Oil. Alcohol should also be avoided the night before and day of treatment along with ibuprofen such as Advil. Exercise before your appointment.

There is minimal downtime with a PDO thread lift procedure although tenderness at the treatment site can be felt for several days. The most common side effects are minor swelling and bruising which resolve in a few days. Dental procedures should be avoided for 2 weeks after treatment.

You will see results immediately which will continue to improve over the next month. Areas, where threads have been used for collagen-building specifically, can be re-treated in 2-4 weeks. PDO threads can last between 6 months and up to 2 years depending on the area and type of thread used.
