What Are Injectible Dermal Fillers?

At ClaraDerma+ we use the highest quality, Health Canada approved injectable dermal fillers. Our Juvederm line of dermal fillers is the number 1 recognized brand in Canada. Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a polysaccharide that occurs naturally in the body and therefore is a safe and reversible treatment for facial volume loss and contouring.

Dermal fillers are injected at varying depths into the skin to create the desired result. Depending on the aesthetic results you wish to achieve, fillers can create a natural look or be used to enhance certain facial features.  Most often dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume or add structure and shaping to the face. Wrinkles and folds can also be greatly improved with dermal filler which is an effective treatment for depressed scars as well. With dermal fillers, you can reduce the signs of aging to bring back a more youthful, fresh glow to your face.

What To Expect

Your specific treatment goals and overall aesthetic look will be discussed continuously throughout the treatment. Because dermal filler results are immediately seen, the Aesthetic Nurse can continuously ensure patient satisfaction. Small amounts of the chosen filler will be injected to specific areas you wish to target. The treatment takes approximately 30-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Dermal Fillers are injections and therefore some discomfort may be felt. All the dermal fillers contain a numbing agent to reduce any discomfort as the procedure continues. A topical numbing agent may be applied if desired and will add about 30 minutes to your treatment time. Ice will also be used during the treatment to help reduce any possible swelling or bruising.

There are several things you can do at home to reduce any bruising and make your treatment more comfortable. Vitamins that have a blood thinning effect should be avoided a few days prior to treatment such as Vitamin E and Fish Oil. Alcohol should also be avoided the night before and day of treatment.

Downtime is very minimal for dermal fillers. You can return to normal activities the next day. The most common side effect is swelling at the injection site. Some bruising may also occur in very vascular areas such as the lips, which only lasts a few days.

You will see results immediately. If you do experience any minor swelling, you’ll see the full results when the swelling goes down within 2-3 days. Dermal fillers can last from 6 months to up to 2 years depending on the product selected in consultation with the Aesthetic Nurse Injector and the area of injection.
