While any cut or surgical incision has the potential to overproduce scar tissue, ear or body piercings most commonly become hypertrophic or keloid. Kenalog injections can help reduce the size and appearance of hypertrophic scars by inhibiting inflammation and collagen production in the affected area, leading to flattening and softening of scar tissue.
Cystic acne creates deep, painful cysts and nodules beneath the skin surface that are often resistant to conventional acne treatments such as topical medications and oral antibiotics. Our nurses will assess the area and ensure your scar qualifies for kenalog treatment. If needed the area will be numbed with topical or injectable numbing for comfort.
More than 1 session may be needed to completely flatten the scar.
Possible side effects can include; include skin atrophy (thinning of the skin), hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin), local pain or discomfort at the injection site, and in rare cases, systemic effects such as adrenal suppression or allergic reactions with high doses.
Our nurses will ensure to minimize these with appropriate dosage, placement, and treatment duration.
Our nurses will gently massage the area treated and cover with a gauze or bandage. You can resume your regular routine the next day after treatment. The medication will continue to work for several weeks and results will continue to appear 2 or more weeks after treatment. If another session is needed, the process can be repeated once a month.
